Starting Up Day1

So, I have decided to borrow a concept from one of my favorite blogs, The Newlywed Diaries, by Jennifer and Wes. I love the concept of noting what "day" you are on regarding a particular project or relationship and it reminds me of one of my favorite cheezy country songs What a Beautiful Day by Chris Cagle. I am also hoping that this will help keep me more diligent about posting!

I have stored on my computer a TON of photos that I love and I thought for Day 1 I would post one of my favorites for each folder name I have. I have to admit I have not kept sources for these images. Almost all of them are from other blogs that I read everyday and if anyone knows where one came from or has an issue with it being posted I am happy to oblige. I am new at this and definitely do not want to step on anyone's toes. That said, here are some of my number 1's:

1. Kid's Spaces

It was so hard to choose because I LOVE kid's spaces. I have a ton stored up and will someday do an entire post on kids rooms so that you can see all of them. I chose this picture for a few reasons.

1) I ALWAYS wanted a curtain on my bed so that I could hide away or read with a flashlight. Something about privacy as a child seemed so cool to me. As an only child I never needed bunk beds so this was always something foreign. One of my favorite things about came (and the reason I always wanted the bottom bunk) was to take the extra towels and sheets and hang them from the bed above to create a little cave.

2) I love the storage these built in beds provides. It allows the walls and play area to be open and big.

3) The desk is and excellent use of space and also prevents distraction. Children can always find a way or reason to be distracted, but providing a work space in a cubbyhole environment at least eliminates distraction from three sides!

The major drawback to this room, and built in beds in general, is how difficult it is to make the bed when a side or sides are up against a wall. In reality this is not the most functional type of bed for children as it makes them less likely to make their bed on a regular basis.

2. Laundry Rooms

I also have an abundance of images of laundry or mud rooms. This is ironic given my lack of laundry talent... My favorite aspect of this room is its functionality. Clearly the room was designed to provide an all-inclusive laundry space. I love that the picnic table in the middle of the room serves as the counter space for the room. In a lot of my favorite laundry room images there is a wide island in the room which provides storage. I like the idea that this table can be used for folding while standing or sitting and can also be used as a general craft area. I also like the decorative aspect of the large glass containers to hold items like detergent in a more visually pleasing manner. I am not sure why there are three machines, maybe a fourth lies outside of the border of the image?

3. Kitchens

Ok, seriously, who wouldn't choose this kitchen? I have so many kitchens filed away with character, etc. but this is a dream kitchen! Although I don't think I would go with so much white, i love the built in fridges, all of the lovely counterspace, the glass pane cabinet doors, the amazing appliances and all of that wonderful floor space! Additionally, the open floorplan makes the space seem so open - and a lot more functional!

One component that I wish was included in this kitchen (maybe it is on the other end of the island) is a built in bookshelf like in this kitchen. This image is a close second...
So thos are three of my number 1 choices...maybe tomorrow I will post more! There might be another day 1 post depending on how inspired I get this afternoon. This is fun however it is difficult with the pictures, I have a lot to learn :)
